A recent study published in eLife found that moderate egg intake can increase the amount of heart-healthy metabolites within the blood.

We include eggs in our daily meals. Eggs can be used to make many different dishes. Eggs are the perfect dish to enjoy for any occasion, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Although you may enjoy eggs for protein and health reasons, it is possible to increase your blood levels of healthy metabolites. Scientists from China discovered the same in a new study published in eLife.

Although eggs are high in dietary cholesterol (high levels), they also contain many nutrients. According to a 2018 study in Heart, people who eat eggs every day (roughly one egg per person) have a lower risk of stroke and Heart disease than those who eat eggs less often. The authors of this study did a population-based study to understand the link better.

Pan and his colleagues selected 4,778 people from the. They measured 225 compounds in plasma samples taken from individuals’ blood using targeted nuclear magnetic resonance. These metabolites were all linked to the individuals’ self-reported egg intake.

The researchers found that those who ate moderate amounts of eggs had higher levels of apolipoproteinA1 in their blood. This is a high-density lipoproteins (HDL) component, also known as ‘good cholesterol. These individuals had higher levels of big HDL molecules, which help remove cholesterol from blood vessels and prevent blockages that could lead to strokes and heart attacks.

The researchers also discovered 14 metabolites that are linked to heart disease. The blood levels of those who ate fewer eggs were lower than those who ate more eggs.

“Together, our results provide a possible explanation for how eating a moderate number of eggs can help prevent heart disease,” He said, “More research is needed to confirm the causal role lipid metabolites have in the association between egg intake and the risk for cardiovascular disease.”

According to current health guidelines, one egg per day is recommended. However, data shows that average egg consumption is much lower than this. He concluded that his research highlighted the need to develop more strategies to encourage moderate egg intake among the population to lower the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

Here we have some egg recipes that you can try if you want to include eggs in your diet to improve your heart health.
